Quebec is NOT a nation, Mr. Ignatieff!

Is Michael Ignatieff pandering to the separatists when he calls the province of Quebec a nation? If he becomes leader of the federal Liberals, will he continue to use this terminology? Will he work towards helping separatist Quebeckers reach their goals?

OK, I'll try to be fair - it's highly unlikely one could label this former long-time ivy league professor (but I love Canada!) as a separatist. I don't know, though, how any red-blooded and flag carrying Canadian could do anything in good faith to even minimally aid the separatist cause or pander to its faithful.

Sure, I have read the dictionary definition of "nation". I know that Ignatieff apologists are pointing to it when trying to backtrack. What they are not doing, however, acknowledging the whole context of the common use of the word in Quebec. When you drive to Quebec City and see the signs welcoming you to the Nation's Capital, what do you think? What did workers think when putting them up? You know darn well what the point of the government at the time was and their central aim really is.

Build a fence, fling those who want to break up our country over it. And unless Ignatieff takes his words back and acknowledges that Quebec is no more a nation than Ontario or Saskatchewan, fling him over the fence as well.
